SONOR 14 X 8 D508X PHONIC FERROMANGANESE STEEL SNARE DRUM
Do you remember when Sonor offered you oscillographically tuned batter and snare heads? Well here is a drum from that very era. Here we have a very nice Sonor Phonic D508x 14 x 8 ferromanganese steel shell snare drum from the mid 1980's. Phonic and Phonic Plus Snare Drums were available with wood or metal shells, the wood shells were made from 9-ply beech wood, metal shells like the one we have here were made from seamless ferromanganese steel.
For the D508x (offered here), D518x and LD547x, Sonor developed an advanced model of the Throw-off release simply named Throwoff II. Slightly similar to the parallel mechanism offered on the Signature series drums, the snares surpass the edge of the head, so that the whole length of the strands rest even better on the snare head. Furthermore, muffling is avoided since the metal plates of the snare mechanism do not touch the snare head.
Further features include seamless ferromanganese steel rims and tension screws with "Snap lock"
This is the same ferromanganese shell offered on the flagship HLD588 Signature snare drum and the D508x sounds equally impressive. They don't come up often so if you want a 14 x 8 Ferro shell, here's your chance!
