Here we have a true icon of a drum kit. This is a Yamaha Rock Tour Custom (also known as the RTC series) The RTC is little brother to the Recording Custom though over the years when it was in production many artists such as Manu Katché favoured the Rock Tour Custom.
The RTC shell is a Birch / Mahogany blend. The sound of the RTC is very similar to the 9000 but with more low end if you can believe it! These drums are incredibly toneful and the bass drum probably has the edge on the 9000 series which many users have found lacks slight bottom end.
The kit we have here is finished in the legendary Hot Red Lacquer, there are a great range of sizes here making this a really versatile rig, all the drums are the power depth options which were highly popular at the time. This kit is probably circa 1989/90 and it was all made in the Japanese factory with the exception of the 10" which was made in England on the Yamaha production line at the Premier facility. All the materials and production processes were 100% constant across all the Yamaha factories, aside from the badge confirming the factory you would not be able to find any difference between the Japanese and English built product. It’s in incredible condition, everything is original including the super sized Yamaha logo head!
This kit will be equally happy on the stage or in the studio, it’s an incredibly well built kit, with many features still recognisable from kits offered through the current Yamaha line up.
