Hendrix Drums are an American owned and operated boutique drum manufacturing company. They specialise and are known for their custom made drum kits and snare drums and for innovations like their sleeved washers. Hendrix Drums are played by some of the most respected and well known drummers around the world including the late great John Blackwell and Johnny Rabb.
Perfect Ply Bubinga Drum Kit
When Hendrix told us about the Perfect Ply kits we couldn't wait to get them over to the UK. A couple of years ago Bubinga became listed as a protected wood species, meaning new drum kits made from Bubinga are becoming more and more rare. Hendrix took the necessary steps to ensure that all of their Bubinga is legally harvested and registered so that they could produce the Perfect Ply Bubinga kits and continue offering them for years to come. The one we have here is the 5 piece with classic 2 up 2 down configuration over a 22 x 16 bass drum.
Bubinga is an extremely dense hardwood that resonates beautifully and produces a rich low end tone with a clear and cutting attack. The Hendrix 5mm thin shells give the drums a remarkable amount of sensitivity, widens their tuning ranges, and increases resonance. The reinforcement rings help focus the overtones and provide the thin shell with the strength it needs to stay in perfect round.
Solid Aluminum Chrome Lugs
Hendrix Drums proprietary 'HD lug' is a small single point lug. The lug body is machined from solid aluminum, as opposed to being cast from steel as most lugs are. The idea behind this lug design was to create a lug that would cause as little hindrance to the shells' resonance as possible. The solid aluminum body allows vibrations to pass through the lugs very easily, resulting in an overall more resonant drum. They are also very light weight and only require one small hole to be drilled into the shell for mounting, which further aids in allowing the drum to resonate. Each lug is plated with decorative chrome that looks great and adds protection to the aluminum body. Lastly, the threaded insert floats in the lug body allowing it to be adjusted toward or away from the shell while remaining parallel to the shell body. This ensures perfect tension rod alignment regardless of head seating.
Gloss Finish
The Perfect Ply Bubinga offered here is in a hard polyester. This finish is extremely durable and finished to a very high sheen.
Sleeved Washers
Sleeved Washers are a Hendrix Drums product that have exploded in popularity. They may be small but they make a big difference. They eliminate all metal on metal contact between the hoop and tension rods, produce smoother and more accurate tuning, enable lower tuning without any "rod rattle", protect the chrome on hoops and rods, and reduce backing out of tension rods so the drums stay in tune for longer. Sleeved Washers come as standard on all Archetype Series drums.
