Here we have a very rare Ahead 14 x 6 Single Ply African Wenge Stave Shell Snare Drum. This snare is crafted using single ply African Exotic Wenge, the African Wenge is a durable hardwood that is known for it's high density and toughness. A stave shell is used for this particular Ahead snare drum and this means the wood runs the entire length of the drum depth, allowing for excellent energy from the drum when in use. This creates a vertical grain across the drum which provides enhanced strength and allows the bearing edge to be a harder, more durable grain. Not only that, the vertical grain means that 90% less glue is used in comparison to a traditional ply shell. The sounds that this type of shell produces are sharp and definitive with rich yet deep overtones.

Many say the 14 x 6 size is an ideal size for various musical applications, with some believing the 6" depth is the perfect depth for a snare drum.
