We have been fans of BDC since the beginning and we really love the build quality and sound of these drums! The British Drum Company has fast become a big name in drums, and even better is that it's being made in the UK! Founded in 2015 by Award-winning master drum-maker Keith Keough, Kasabian's Ian Matthews, Pub Landlord Al Murray, Stu Warmington and Alan Kitching this brand is already going places.
The British Drum Company adheres to the proudest traditions of British drum manufacturing, using only British made shells, employing striking design and committing to constant innovation.
THE LOUNGE
On first looking at this drum kit what really excites us is BDC's incredible attention to detail. The beautiful Chrome B-Badge, the vent hole is also a secondary badge (inside and outside the drum) and then there is the stunning serial number sticker inside each drum too. The hand rubbed satin oil finish is flawless too. Whilst much of this is more based on the look of the drum rather than the sound, it goes to show how committed BDC are to fully realising the complete build of this product. The Palladium lug, bass drum claw and tom brackets are all made by BDC and that is before we talk about the shells. In a world where many drum makers are outsourcing a great deal of components that is certainly not the case with BDC and it makes for a superior looking and feeling product.
The Lounge Series drums are formed from a combination of 9 ply Mahogany and Scandinavian Birch which has been cross laminated and cold-press moulded into a shell that is only 5.5mm thick. This results in a super-strong, super-thin shell that produces a warm and complex tone.
Like the Legend Series these are precision hand-crafted drums and are incredibly versatile. The addition of Mahogany and 30 degree round-over bearing edges add a tremendous darker warmth and projection synonymous with the best vintage kits. These drums share the same wide tuning range and suit any musical situation producing low fat tones when tuned down and a brighter warmth when tuned up.
The Palladium hardware is fitted across the entire kit, the lug draws inspiration from the Art Deco period, its a lug that loves lights and looks great from all angles. The lug on the Lounge differs from the Legend kit, this has a more traditional looking double lug which really sets off the look of this kit. The Bass Drum Claw continues the design cues, again constructed using cast alloy. The Palladium brackets on the floor tom have self-aligning and visually integrated memory locks too.
THE TOMSPRING
The Lounge kit also comes with a new BDC innovation called the Tom Spring. These are designed to allow you to snare stand mount the tom without loss of resonance.
The Tomspring is fitted to the tom under the tension rods and becomes the new interface between the tom and snare stand.
