THE IMP
When we first saw this 12 x 5.5 Snare drum (which is primarily designed to accompany the BDC Imp drum kit) what really excited us was BDC's incredible attention to detail. The beautiful Chrome B-Badge, the vent hole is also a secondary badge inside and outside the drum and then also inside the drum is the stunning holographic serial number sticker with the Made In Britain logo. The hand rubbed satin oil finish is flawless and the internal finish on the IMP matches too. Whilst much of this is more based on the look of the drum rather than the sound, it goes to show how committed BDC are to fully realising the complete build of this product. The Palladium lug, and snare strainer are all made by BDC and that is before we talk about the shells. In a world where many drum makers are outsourcing a great deal of components that is certainly not the case with BDC and it makes for a superior looking and feeling product.
The IMP shell is a combination of maple, tulip and birch, arranged to optimise volume and projection, these are cross laminated plies that utilise BDC's signature Cold Press Moulding technique which results in a super strong air gap free shell. BDC's precision hand cut 30-degree round-over bearing edges are used on the IMP which increase head to shell vibration to boost output.
The IMP is aimed at the professional looking for a compact size that can deliver and we think this makes a perfect aux snare to be added on to a larger kit configuration too. The 12 x 5.5 snare delivers an excellent sound with top of the range durability. It has great attack, but can be tuned up for tons of character or down lower for a fatter feel.
