We are very excited to introduce you to the new Yamaha DTX10 series electronic drum kits. The DTX10 series is Yamaha's new flagship top range series, the kit is powered by all new DTX-PROX module. For the DTX-10 Yamaha have developed brand new pads that feature real birch wood shells in a choice of two finishes and with a choice of their unique TCS Silicone heads or Mesh heads which also sees Yamaha heading in to new territory. The great thing about these two choices are that whilst both feel great to play the feels are different meaning drummers can have a a choice over what better suits their needs and playing style.
This DTX-PROX module is an incredibly powerful and feature packed drum module, please be sure to check out all of the info. below detailing the extremely powerful sound, recording, output and video features you can access from this system.
DTX10K-X
The DTX10K-X offers the TCS (Textured Cellular Silicone) Yamaha have designed the TCS pads to work in the same way as acoustic drums. Air bubbles in the silicone surface compress when hit. The compressed air pushes the stick back in a natural and realistic way making them feel really great to play.
The DTX10K-X promises professional sounds, features, and looks for players of all levels and is a massive technological step forward. It combines Yamaha‘s world class acoustic drum history with the newest in digital drumming, sampling, and music technology.
The TCS Drum Pads use real Yamaha birch ply shells for a totally authentic look and maximum drumming integrity, this particular set is finished in "Real Wood" - the same colour featured on Yamaha Recording Custom Series drums. The lugs and hoops are the same as on Yamaha’s acoustic drums, and each Pad features a unique “DTX Drums” badge.
The DTX10K-X also features the new KP128 Kick Pad (also finished in Real Wood) with a 12” Mesh Head and multi layer cushion head surface. Also introduced in this model is the new larger 17" 3-Zone PCY175 Ride Cymbal pad.

About the DTX-PROX Module
The DTX-PROX Drum Trigger Module offers totally new audio quality with new Samples recorded in some of the best studios in Europe. The sounds can be treated with a host of studio effects, so users can tailor the sound of their Kits to their exact needs. Users can also load up to 1,000 of their own Samples, in addition to the 700+ internal sounds. It also has up to 10 Outputs for all recording or live situations, and other features aimed purely at the professional player.
Unique to the DTX-PROX Modules are the Kit Modifier Knobs which allow the user to instantly change the sound of the Kit by adjusting real sampled room Ambience (not just digital Reverb), Kit Compression, and other Effects in real time. Every channel also has EQ, and Transient Adjustment which is usually found in studio software and allows you to change the Attack and Decay of the sound to suit your needs.
The Ambience Modifier works by adding real room ambience onto the kit sound. When the drums were sampled, as well as the drum kits being recorded, the sound of the studio rooms were also sampled allowing the user to dial in the required amount of room ambience. You can add this natural ambience onto the drum kit sound by turning up the Ambience Modifier.
The Compression Modifier works by adding compression onto the whole kit. A little bit of compression helps to ‘glue’ the sound of the kit together. More compression adds more ‘smack’ or attack to the sound and sounds more aggressive.
The Effect Modifier works by controlling how much you hear of the 2 effects processors, and the Master FX. Each pad can send different amounts of signal to either processor, meaning each pad can have different effects on it if required.
BLUETOOTH
The DTX-PROX is the first Yamaha module to be equipped with Bluetooth, meaning it can connect wirelessly to other devices for music playback, specialist click apps etc
DTX-PROX USER INTERFACE
The Mode Select Knob on the DTX-PROX allows you to easy move between different functions of the module without having to dig into menus. You very quickly have access to Kit Select, Click functions, Trigger functions, the Recorder, and Live Set For most tasks, when using the DTX-PROX module, users just need to access the Mode Select Knob, the 8 buttons under the screen, and the +/- knob and buttons.
The Fader Select Knob allows you to quickly and easily change the functionality of the LED Rotary Faders. For example, if you want to change the mix of a kit, turn the Fader Select Knob to Mixer, and the 7 LED Rotary Faders become your volume sliders If you want to change the tuning of each instrument, turn the Fader Select Knob to Tuning, and the 7 LED Rotary Faders become individual tuning knobs for all the pads.
AUX INPUTS
There are 2 Aux Inputs on the DTX-PROX module - one on the back panel (6.35mm) and one on the front panel (3.5mm). All are stereo jacks, and can be routed to different locations or outputs depending on the module. They can be used by the drummer as a monitor mixer input and can be routed just to the headphones.
Pad Features
The ride cymbal pad on the DTX10 kits have ‘hit point detection’, or positional sensing, which means it can sense where on the bow it is being played, and change the sound accordingly. This is in addition to the 3-zones - bell, bow and edge.
The trend in recent years is for ride cymbal pads to be a more realistic size. Because of this, Yamaha have introduced the PCY175 17” ride cymbal pad with the DTX10 series. It performs in exactly the same way as its smaller versions - the PCY135 and the PCY155 - 3 zone, easily to choke pads - but in a larger size, and all down a single cable.
The XP125SD-X snare pad also has position sensing. This allows the sound to change subtly from centre to edge for an extremely realistic snare responce. This is in addition to the head, rim and cross stick sounds.
The DTX10 comes with the KP128 Kick Pad. The KP128 features a Multi Layer Cushion Head design with adjustable tension, the pad is large enough for double pedals. The KP128 acoustically has lower natural pitch making it harmonically less intrusive when monitoring the on-board sounds - this really is a great feature!
RS10 HXR Rack
Yamaha have changed the approach to racks for the DTX10. No longer do they put a left bar on the rack this is to improve positioning for hi-hat stands and for double pedal players. The Module is for the first time mounted on right hand side - new for DTX. The rack can be completely reversed for left handed set up. This Rack uses the same clamp components found across the HEX Rack series with specially sized bars and legs.
Training Mode
The DTX-PROX has borrowed the best practice functions from previous DTX models. There are 10 training functions that are ideal for players of all standards, as well as 37 training songs that allow you to learn various genres. Drummers of all levels should find the training functions a useful aid for daily practice.
Click
The click on the DTX-PROX is exactly what drummers are after - precise, clear, and easily accessible. It can be routed to just the headphone output for use when other musicians are in earshot or can be routed to any of the other outputs for sending to monitors etc - perfect for live use. You can even import your own click samples if there is a click sound you particularly like to use.
Headphone Amplifier
It is incredibly important that drummers can hear themselves clearly, so the new DTX modules comes equipped with a high precision, low distortion, low noise, and high- power headphone amplifier. This circuitry delivers high-fidelity sound directly to the player, and has been developed exclusively for electronic drums. The DTX-PROX has both 6.35mm and 3.5mm headphone outputs for ease of use, whether it is headphones or in ear monitors.
Advanced Functions
USER SAMPLES
You can load up to 1000 of your own samples into the DTX-PROX Module. Each sample can be 16 bit or 24 bit, stereo or mono, and is loaded in from a USB drive DTX-PROX= 256Mb (25min 22secs stereo) This can all be used for drum and percussion sounds as there are other ways to play / trigger tracks.
PAD LAYERING
Every zone of every pad of the DTX10 kit can have 4 layers. Each layer can be an internal sound or a user sample. You can choose to stack these layers (play all together) or to alternate - each time the zone is hit, the next sound in the list is heard great for building real time percussion loops or even melodic motifs. This is a function called Stack/Alt
USER VOICES
The DTX-PROX Module has a feature called User Voice which works in parallel with Stack/Alt. This means that up to 40 samples can be loaded onto any zone of any pad. These samples can then be set to play at different dynamics. You could load up to 120 samples per pad - 10 layers and 4 repeating samples on each zone.
USB AUDIO + MIDI
The USB ‘To Host’ port can carry MIDI data to a computer or smart device but also audio data. This means you can record by simply attaching the module to a device. The audio is a 24 bit stereo audio stream.
STREAM AUDIO FROM USB
You can also stream audio tracks into the DTX-PROX module. If you put a USB drive with 16 bit/44.1kHz audio files on it, you can play along to them. Go to the Recorder, find the track you want, and press Play.
GUIDE AUDIO
Guide Audio is for when you want to use backing tracks live but you do not want to use a computer on stage. If you prepare your backing tracks with the track on one side and the click on the other, the DTX-PROX can route the click to the headphones and the track to the master outputs. You can still balance the mix so it sounds correct to you without changing the master mix. Your tracks can be on the USB drive, or come in on the Aux In, USB or Bluetooth - the choice is yours.
RECORD TO USB
You can also use the DTX-PROX to record yourself playing. You simply select the Recorder function, press Record, and start playing. You can use the module alone as an audio notepad and record for 90 seconds, or you can plug in a USB drive and record for 90 minutes. This means by attaching a microphone to the Aux In, rehearsals and lessons can be easily recorded, great functions for both Students and Teachers.
RECORD WITHOUT A COMPUTER
If you want to record yourself playing along to a track and you do not have a computer to hand, you can simply use the DTX-PROX module. If you put the track onto a USB drive and insert it in the module, select the Recorder, find the track, press Play and then immediately Record as well, the module will record your drums over the audio track. It is a perfect way to record demos. Please Note** You will need a USB drive that has a fast write speed.
BACKING TRACK PLAYBACK
The DTX-PROX has a unique feature for playing back backing tracks for live work - Live Set. The module can generate click tracks for stereo audio files on USB drives and send the click to the headphone output for the drummer to listen to.
This means that drummers and bands can use stereo backing tracks without having to have a separate click audio track - the DTX-PROX can generate this by itself.
The click can be routed just to the headphones or also to the individual outputs so the rest of the band can hear the click through their monitors if required.
AUDIO ROUTING (INDIVIDUAL OUTPUTS)
The DTX-PROX allows you to route pad outputs to different individual outputs for live or studio use. As well as offering some preset routing options for different situations, you can also create your own output routing to suite your needs. Audio coming into the DTX-PROX can be routed to different places for maximum flexibility live, in the studio or for practice.
7X REAL-TIME MIDI CC CONTROLLERS
The DTX-PROX allows you to control external software or hardware by sending MIDI CC data from the very front of the module using the LED Rotary Faders in Custom Mode.
REC’N’SHARE
Rec’n’Share first became known with the EAD10, this is a revolutionary app for drummers that turns your Yamaha module in to a Recording and Video studio all in one when coupled with an iOS or Android device. Now Rec’n’Share works with the DTX8 range, meaning it can be used for practice or video making. Rec’n’Share is iOS and Android compatible. The device connects with a USB cable and an adaptor (depending on the device).
PLAY, CHANGE TEMPO, ADD CLICK
Any track which you have on your device, and which you own a copy of, can be used with Rec’n’Share. Streaming sites such as Spotify and Apple Music cannot be used because of Digital Rights Management (DRM). Rec’n’Share can link to Dropbox for easy access of all your music tracks. Any track in Rec’n’Share can have its tempo changed and have a click added to it. You can also loop sections of the track for better practice sessions.
FILM, EDIT, MIX, UPLOAD As well as recording your playing, the Rec’n’Share App can also be used to record drum videos, by using the audio from the DTX-PRO and the video capture of the attached device. Videos can be trimmed and edited, mixes changed, and the final result can be easily shared directly from the app.
CUBASE AI Every DTX8 kit comes with a download code to get a copy of Cubase AI, the powerful music production software from Steinberg. By connecting the DTX-PRO to your computer with a USB cable, all recording, editing, and mixing tasks that are found in modern music production, can be handled by Cubase.
