YAMAHA EAD10 ELECTRONIC ACOUSTIC DRUM SOUND MODULE AND TRIGGER SYSTEM
Welcome to the EAD10 from Yamaha. EAD stands for Electronic Acoustic Drum and that description is exactly what your acoustic kit will become when you add the EAD10 System. Before we delve in to the details we want to say whilst this is a very advanced and powerful piece of equipment with a huge feature set, the EAD10 is extremely easy and intuitive to use, the same can also be said of the Rec'N'Share app which is designed to further enhance the features. If you don't like reading manuals and delving deep in to manuals, this unit is the one! Everything is controlled from the front panel, the sounds are instantly good and most importantly it's great fun as well as incredibly powerful for a host of applications that we will detail at the bottom.
What's in the box?
EAD10 comes with two key pieces. There is a sound module and a sensor. Also included are the power supply, all the cables to connect the sensor to the module, an attachment to screw on to the bottom of the module so the EAD10 can be positioned on a drum clamp or tom holder, a rubber protector to attach to your bass drum hoop where you will attach the sensor and some velcro cable ties to help keep everything looking neat.
In Summary
The EAD10 simplifies a complicated setup that typically requires microphones, cables, mixers and PA expertise. Just attach the EAD10 sensor unit to any acoustic bass drum and you will have a high-quality stereo image of your entire kit. It allows you to play along with your favorite artists, record your acoustic drums and share it digitally.
With the free iOS/Android app you can shoot, edit and upload videos of your drum performances.
The EAD10 enhances every aspect of your drumming - the way you practice, record and perform live, and it makes your acoustic drums do more.
The Module
The Sound Module is a very clever piece of kit which not only interprets all of the information from the sensor, in addition it will also integrate with your Mac or Android device for rapid video creation, a thumb drive for up to 90 minutes of recording and an intuitive mixing panel that helps you balance the drum sound, effects, trigger sounds and even audio and click balances so you can play along to your favourite tracks using the free Rec'n'Share app (more on this down the page)
The main unit of EAD10 is designed with ease of use in mind. The left side of the main unit comes equipped with large knobs that can easily be adjusted mid-performance, so that the main control functions like volume and preset scene can be accessed easily. LED indicators have been added to the preset scene controls of reverb, effect and trigger to make them more visible. This allows for quick and intuitive adjustment on even the darkest of stages. The buttons and LCD display on the right allow for even more detailed adjustments.
A high-performance headphone amplifier was also developed specifically for this unit and delivers power and performance that cannot be outdone by the dynamic sounds of acoustic drums.
It also comes equipped with many high-quality effects and PCM sound sources used in Yamaha electronic musical instruments.
The Sensor
What immediately excited us about the design of the sensor was the idea of placing it in the centre of the kit above the bass drum. This is a technique often used in studios as part of a larger mic set up, it's often a position that delivers great results. The sensor unit of the EAD10 comprises a specially developed XY stereo microphone sensor and trigger sensors, allowing you to capture a balanced recording of the entire kit by placing this at the centre of the kit itself.
The microphone capsule is a newly-developed microphone that comes equipped with the ultra-high sound pressure resistance and strong noise resistance suitable for recording drums. The entire sensor unit, including the grill that covers the microphone capsule, incorporates an acoustical design that allows for the adjustment of directivity and frequency characteristics. The preamplifier is equipped with custom parts, and the mic itself is designed to draw out the maximum dynamic range of a drum kit while achieving the balance ideal for recording, allowing for clear, dynamic sounds.
Additionally, the range of sounds that can be created has been greatly expanded, using the trigger sensor to combine bass drum sounds with a PCM sound source.
The EAD10 has achieved both simplicity and quality by combining technologies that can only be developed by a comprehensive manufacturer.
Mechanism of the EAD10
The EAD10 can capture the sounds of an entire drum kit and monitor them at a high quality just by attaching the sensor to the bass drum. By simply turning the knob on the module, you can control various effects and change the drum sound.
Connect with Smart Device/App (now works with IOS & Android)
The EAD10 can be played with your favorite music from smart devices via an AUX cable or USB cable connection.
Using the free Android/iOS Rec'n'Share app developed by Yamaha, you can practice by adding a metronome to your favourite music, record audio, record video, edit, and upload to SNS right from your drum kit. Also, if you have a USB flash drive, you can record your own drum performance for up to 90 minutes.
EAD10 with Live Scene
Quickly add your drums to the mix with just two cables. We were really pleased to discover that the provided cables are incredible high quality and extra long allowing for positioning of the EAD Module anywhere with in your drum set up.
Talkback Function
A player's voice can be captured by the microphone of the unit sensor by operating the Mic button on the module or by using the pedal. This makes it perfect for video creation and web lessons.
Using the EAD10 with a Mesh Drum Kit
Combining the EAD10 with a low-volume drum kit using mesh heads and low-volume cymbals, leads to the birth of an entirely new drum kit. Playing PCM sound with triggers attached to each drum and capturing the raw sound of the cymbal from the sensor, allows a low-volume experience while realistic drum sounds are output through the headphones and speakers. Settings resembling that of a real drum kit lend themselves to the production of a performance that feels more real than ever before and is easily recorded with the module or Rec'n'Share app.
Mic your drums in seconds - attach the EAD10 to any acoustic drum, and you'll have a high-quality stereo image of the entire acoustic kit in seconds. The EAD10 intuitively and instantly transforms acoustic drum sounds with studio-quality digital effects and sampled sounds. Create stunning audio and video and easily share it directly from your mobile device.
50 preset/200 user Scenes transform your acoustic drum sounds dynamically.
Attach the EAD10 to the bass drum, and you can pick up the entire kit
With the free Android/iOS app, you can practice, shoot, edit and upload videos of your drum performances.
