Here we have a very special set indeed. This is a Gretsch Broadkaster circa 2000 - 2002, the spec of the bass drum spurs and colour would suggest this kit comes from the later half of the production years. The Broadkaster was re-introduced in 1998 after a time away, there was a limited amount of sizes and colours offered, many of you may remember the Harvey Mason signature version of the kit (offered in Harvey's preferred sizes) All the Broadkasters from this time period came with the Gunmetal Grey Hardware, this one is finished in Satin Wine Red which was made in very limited numbers.
The kit also has the more recent Gretsch bass drum spurs, the earlier kits came with the Gull Wing bass drum spurs which proved to be a little flimsy so the fact this kit has the newer spurs on spec is a definite advantage.
The Broadkaster has the famous and super sonic sounding Jasper Shells, finished inside with Gretsch's silver sealer, the hoops are Die Cast and the kit is mounted on RIMS mounts with standard Gibralter Collar Lock Style Brackets which also point this kit to the 'Kaman era'
This kit sounds absolutely fantastic, it will suit any genre of music, the kit boasts a massive tuning range, fantastic tone and is dynamically very responsive. A Broadkaster from this era makes a great live or studio set, bags of tone and incredible definition. Condition wise the kit is worthy of 10/10 with exception of the bass drum hoop where the usual pedal rash is present so we'll have to give it a 9.5 overall. The Toms are immaculate, the gunmetal fittings look like they were produced yesterday, this kit has been incredibly well looked after.
These Late 90's / Early 00's Broadkasters are very few in numbers, this surely has to be one of the finest examples around in 2024! A very lovely thing indeed!
