The quick release mechanism has a spring-loaded lock that slips on and off in less than one second. To drop the hi-hat, pull down on the arm. To re-connect the hi-hat, step on the hi-hat pedal.

Both parts of the mechanism are threaded allowing the wing nut to interchange allowing for standard clutch use too if required.
