'The Most Famous Name on Drums'

Ludwig was founded in 1909, by 1929 they had developed the Black Beauty snare drum which is one of the most sought after and recorded snare drum sounds of all time and still in production today. in 1947 Ludwig's first post WWII catalogue featured a cover shot of Buddy Rich. By the mid 60's Ludwig could barely make drums fast enough due to Ringo Starr's 1964 Ed Sullivan Show performance on his Black Oyster kit with the Beatles. 1964 also saw the launch of the legendary 400 series snare drum which would become another in demand recording snare.

Further legendary musical collaborations and designs followed in the 70's with John Bonham performing and recording on Ludwig with Led Zeppelin making Ludwig's Vistalite Plexiglas shells, Stainless Steel drums and the 402 snare the pin-up drums for every aspiring rock drummer.

In 1984 Ludwig's 75th year, Ludwig moved from Chicago to Monroe and in 1998 the company launched the Classic Maple Series drums. By it's 100th Anniversary Ludwig had expanded to start making lower cost drums in China whilst maintaining high end drum production in the USA with the latest high end Legacy Drums bridging the past back to the future offering USA made kits with shell that was at the core of Ludwig for over 50 years.
