Here we have a very nice refurbished Gretsch Stop Sign Badge USA Custom in some incredibley unusual sizes for the time. The refurbishment was carried out by the late great Eddie Ryan in 2006 to his very exacting and high standard.
The serial numbers place the Toms from around 1979 - 1981 the bass drum is slightly older coming from sometime during the mid 1970's. The kit is finished in Rosewood Gloss, this is an original American built set with the famous Gretsch USA Custom shell formula and silver sealer interior.
The refurbishment was carried out to enhance the durability of this set making this a kit you can play everyday whilst enjoying that super mature Gretsch USA sound. Enhancements include new Gretsch DieCast hoops throughout, more recent Gretsch Tom Brackets, Bass Drum Mount and Double Tom Holder, The 15 x 12 has been converted to a floor tom and the two holes from the original tom bracket were expertly filled and refinished by Eddie Ryan, The Bass Drum has also been updated with modern Pearl Bass Drum Spurs which is a very typical upgrade for Gretsch kits from this era.
This kit sounds exactly as you would expect, it's effortless to tune the toms, the bass drum is super present with a great balance of low end warmth and punchy beater definition. You don't often see the staggered 10 x 6.5 tom nor the 12 x 8 or 15 x 12 sizes. The colour is a perfect match across all 4 drums the grain is beautiful throughout.
If you fancy something that's well played in with classy looks and modern durability this is going to be a great fit!
