Mapex have launched a massive array of new drums at Winter NAMM 2020. Here we have the first details for their very latest drum set range addition - The Saturn Evolution Series. For the first time Mapex are offering you the opportunity to mix and match both Hybrid Walnut / Maple Shells with Walnut / Birch Shells and there are 10 incredible new finishes to choose from!

When we were working on the Saturn upgrades we thought
what if....

We designed a whole new isolation tom mounting system..
Introduced chamber specific shell construction, to maximize the tone of every drum..
And worked some Birch into the equation

The extremely pleasing result is the all new

Mapex Saturn Evolution

Due to launch in the spring of 2020, and also previewing
at the winter Namm show, the Saturn Evolution offers a
virtually unlimited combination of shells, sizes and
cross-over finishes for a drummer to fully explore their
musical ambitions.

Available as individual components, or as pre-set shell
packs the chamber specific design ensures all drums
blend beautifully, with the 10 new finishes perfectly
matched on both the Maple/Walnut and Birch/Walnut
Hybrid Shells, so that the players choice of shell
material can be based on sound alone.

New Mapex Halo Mount

The revolutionary new Mapex Halo Mount is featured on all Saturn Evolution toms and unlocks the freedom of full resonance. Using a Lateral "under lug-line" suspension system, this ground breaking isolation mount, allows the shell the freedom to breath, delivering a pure, open tone.

Saturn Evolution Finishes

The finishes on the new Saturn Evolution follow the Sonic Attenuation (SAS) System, first conceived for our Design Lab series, with 4 colours rated at SAS-0 (Satin), 3 at SAS-1 (high gloss), and 3 at SAS-2 (high gloss over an exotic outer ply). SAS-0 finishes have no effect on the natural tone of the wood shell, whilst the SAS-1 high gloss lacquers deliver a slightly dryer sound, and those shells finished with an SAS-2 exotic outer ply produce the driest tones in the range.
Although the sonic effect of these graded finishes is small, they are yet another way in which a drummer can fine tune their choice to design their perfect sound.
