We are really excited to welcome Masshoff to Drumazon. We've been massive fans of what Udo Masshoff has been developing not only in terms of his one of a kind custom snare drums and drum sets but also we're big fans of his drum sound school based out of Frank Zappa Street in Berlin (how cool is that!)

Udo is a platinum awarded drum sound designer and luxury drum maker. He has been in the business for more than two decades and has shaped the drums and drum sounds on more than 500 productions, this guy knows Drums!

Masshoff Snares have made it in to the snare drum arsenals of drummers such as Charlie Watts, have been sampled by Native Instruments for the immensely popular 'Studio Drummer' sample library and feature on countless hit records across the world by request of some of the worlds most discerning producers.

About the Duco King

This drum has been built from the ground up by Udo for Drumazon. We spec'd the finish based on a drum he had previously made that we thought was unbelievable, we then selected the size and the hoops and left Udo to do his thing. What arrived was more stunning than anything we could have dreamt of, hopefully the pictures go someway towards doing this drum justice. Every detail on this drum has been painstakingly hand painted by Udo, no repeats, no templates, a total one of a kind work of art.

The Masshoff Duco finish is a modern interpretation of the classical duco finish of the 1930´s but mixed with a very rare Ludwig Snaredrum finish called "stipplegold" .This finish was created by hand. The golden stripe around the drum has a real cool aged structure ("stipplegold") that gives this drum some nice depth in the finish. The black lacquer is carefully sanded to the desired look. The red piano felts are isolating all the hardware parts from the shell and give the whole drum that little twist in the appearence. The colour of those felts are always part of the style.

One thing the pictures don't show you is how incredibly solid this drum is. The shell is solid die cast steel and features reinforcing rings top and bottom. This allows the drum to be extremely powerful and precise at the same time.

Sonics

Masshoff snares sound incredible, and if you follow Udo's drum tuning methods, this drum propels to another dimension. Udo's entire drum building concept has been to use the very best parts in order to not only achieve a fantastic finish, but to deliver an uncompromising sound. The Shell, Hoops, Snare Wires, Lugs and the Finishing are all done in house and by hand and you can hear the love in these drums as much as you can see it. Masshoff say an average drum consists of around 200 parts, in the process of building a Masshoff snare, this can sometimes and usually be up to 800+ parts.
