In 2018, we approached Noble & Cooley with a bold request: to apply a translucent red lacquer finish over a Walnut Classic drum set. The result was a groundbreaking kit - one of its kind at the time, the response was nothing short of incredible. Since then, we've revisited this same finish on three further kits, with the final kit completed in the summer of 2022 by Jay and Nick Jones before their departure from the company. This last iteration features the signature Translucent Cherry Red gloss, but with larger drum sizes, brass lugs, and black chrome hoops. The wood grain on this set is nothing short of exceptional, elevating the beauty of the walnut to new heights.

For this particular kit, we went all out. The configuration includes three rack toms, two floor toms, and a thunderous 22x16 bass drum, offering a complete sonic range for players seeking both versatility and power.

Much like the Noble & Cooley Walnut ply and Solid Shell Classic snare drums, the Walnut Classic drum kits deliver a deep, low-end response paired with a vintage, darker tone. The sound is robust, full, and surprisingly ambient, offering a unique character that stands out in any musical setting. Additionally, these Walnut Classic drums incorporate the Witt Percussion all-horizontal approach—an innovative design shared with N&C’s snare drums of the time that ensures exceptional performance and tonal richness.

With Jay and Nick’s departure from Noble & Cooley, this kit represents a rare opportunity to own one of the last kits crafted by the Cooley family. A piece of drum-making history, this kit not only a phenomenal instrument but also a true collector’s item for the discerning drummer.
