PEARL MASTERS MHX MAHOGANY CLASSIC 6 PIECE DRUM KIT, RED MAHOGANY, GOLD HARDWARE

Here we have a Pearl Masters MHX Mahogany Classic. This kit was made in 2004, it features the 5mm 4 ply African Mahogany shell with Maple reinforcing rings. The kit is finished in stunning Red Mahogany Lacquer and is one of a few kits ever to be offered in the UK with the 24K Gold plated fittings. The MHX was originally offered as a limited edition set in 1997, the earlier version came with chrome hardware, ISS mounts and Super hoops as standard, Omar Hakim was featured with the set in Pearl’s adverts when the kit launched and his signature snare made from the same African Mahogany shell was launched shortly afterwards. This face-lifted version offered here was the last of the MHX kits to be made in the Taiwan factory, it offered the updated Opti-Mounts and Mastercast Die-Cast hoops. Other additional updates included are the Stainless Steel tension rods, rubber gaskets and updated SP-30 Bass Drum spurs.

Another unusual specification on this kit is the Standard Size toms, most MHX kits came with power depth toms unless specially ordered. This particular set up is very similar specification to that of Pearl endorsees such as Dennis Chambers, Omar Hakim and the late great Jeff Porcaro.

The African Mahogany shells deliver an incredible low fundamental tone, the 4 ply Mahogany shell is one of our favourite Masters Bass Drums, lots of warmth and depth. This is also present in the floor toms, the kit really will excel in both Live and Recording situations. If you wanted to order this specification from Pearl in 2019 it would only be available via the Masterworks series and would come with a high price tag.

The Pearl MHX Mahogany Classic kits are in very high demand because of their sonic reputation. We haven’t seen an example as good as this in recent years. The Gold Hardware is in very good condition, the shells are immaculate on all 5 toms, there is a scuff on the bass drum where the Tom Holder has dented the lacquer (a common accident) we have had the scuff polished out and it is now barely visible. The kit comes with 3 Gold TH-100 UniLock tom holders and has been re-headed with Evans G2 Batter heads and an EMAD Bass Drum Head.

This is a great opportunity for an MHX fan to get a great array of sizes, in a rare specification presented in the best possible condition. It’s really hard to believe this is a 15 year old drum set.
