The bass drum delivers incredible power, with deep low-end presence—likely enhanced by the innovative Bass Enhancement Weights inside the drum. The toms offer exceptional tonal clarity, producing pure notes at lower dynamics while maintaining definition and resonance even at high sound pressure levels. Across the dynamic spectrum, these drums provide excellent projection, attack, and that signature warm tone found in all of Yamaha's high-end kits. The Live Custom Hybrid Oak is versatile, suited for a variety of playing styles, but excels for drummers who require extra attack and projection.

The kit features a unique 7-ply Oak/Phenolic hybrid shell that blends oak with phenolic sheets, resulting in massive power and articulation—ideal for live performances but equally impressive in studio settings. Additionally, the kit showcases the UZUKURI finish, a traditional Japanese technique that highlights the natural beauty of the oak grain.

Oak/Phenolic Hybrid Shell

Inspired by Yamaha's PHX and Absolute Hybrid Maple kits, the Live Custom Hybrid Oak shells incorporate a dense phenolic sheet sandwiched between two oak plies. Yamaha has long been a pioneer in oak drums, and with this new design, they’ve expanded the dynamic range to emphasise attack and projection, perfect for cutting through live mixes.

UZUKURI Finish

The UZUKURI finishing technique, adapted for the Live Custom series, accentuates the oak grain’s natural texture. Soft areas of the wood are carefully sanded, coated in a thin layer of black paint, then sanded again before applying the final finish, creating a one-of-a-kind aesthetic that enhances the grain’s natural beauty.

Bass Enhancement Weights

A cutting-edge design feature inspired by Yamaha's Absolute Lug system, Bass Enhancement Weights are strategically placed at the bass drum’s lug points. These weights focus low-mid frequencies, delivering a tight and focused bass drum sound.
